Vacancy at WBS: Sessional Lecturer – African Energy Leadership Centre

The AELC is seeking to recruit appoint a Sessional Lecturer for its Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Leadership – Electricity Stream. 

Considering challenges South Africa and other African countries face in their need to reform and transition their electricity sectors, the AELC introduced in 2022 an Electricity Stream elective into our Postgraduate Diploma in the field of Energy Leadership. We are seeking a lecturer for the following course:

Power Market Organization, Restructuring and Transformation:

This course develops a foundational understanding of how power markets function and can be organized, reformed, and ultimately transformed.  Candidates are exposed to concepts such as vertical, horizontal unbundling, competition across various market segments, the role of privatisation, and good practices for governance during transitions.

The minimum contract period is for the 2025 academic year. However, the AELC would prefer a three-year commitment based on assessments of satisfactory delivery and the availability of grant funding.

Minimum requirements

1. An appropriate Master’s degree. In certain cases, exceptions may be made.

2. Fluent in spoken and written English.

3. Familiarity with the subject matter.

4. Ability to deliver the course lectures over the period 5th July 2025 to 11th July 2025.
