Wits MIND Investec Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Business Transformation
The Wits MIND Investec Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Business Transformation is a flagship academic initiative focused on the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into business, governance, and sustainable development.
Located within Wits Business School and connected to the wider Wits AI ecosystem through MIND, the Chair advances research, teaching, executive education, industry collaboration, and public dialogue on how AI is transforming organisations, markets, financial services, work, and society.
The Chair aims to position WBS as a leading African and global voice on AI governance and sustainable business transformation, with a particular focus on responsible AI adoption, organisational capability, digital innovation, economic inclusion, and Africa’s development priorities.
Through academic research, postgraduate and postdoctoral support, case study development, executive education, seminars, policy dialogue, and industry partnerships, the Chair contributes to building the knowledge, leadership capacity, and governance frameworks required for inclusive and sustainable AI transformation.
A Message from the Founding Academic Lead
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how organisations compete, make decisions, serve customers, manage risk, and create value. For Africa, AI presents both a major opportunity and a significant governance challenge.
The question is not only how businesses can adopt AI, but how they can do so responsibly, sustainably, and inclusively.
The Investec–Wits Business School Artificial Intelligence Chair has been established to help answer this question. Our work brings together research, teaching, industry engagement, public dialogue, and talent development to support leaders who are navigating the next phase of digital transformation.
At Wits Business School, we believe that AI must be understood not only as a echnological shift, but as a leadership, governance, strategy, and societal challenge. The Chair will contribute to building Africa’s evidence base, leadership capacity, and policy voice in this critical field.
