Psychometric Assessments at WBS for admission

As part of the application process at WBS, our applicants are shortlisted by the Admissions Officers to take an Admissions Test. The applicants have the option of choosing from the GMAT, NMAT or the WBS Admissions Test.

WBS PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENT

The WBS psychometric assessment is currently offered online through a service provider, Jopie van Rooyen Psychometrics, referred to as JvR at a cost of R1 000 (subject to annual price changes)

The battery consists of 3 tests, a brief description of each follows below:

  • Matrigma

is a non-verbal test that measures general mental ability, GMA. The test  challenges the ability to find hidden connections, fill in gaps where information is missing,  grasp the relationship between different objects, and find points of similarity among figures that differ one from the other. In other words, Matrigma measures individual problem-solving, logical ability and a flair for being able to spot logical connections.

This type of GMA test, where the problem-solving tasks have the format of geometrical  figures or matrices, provides a good measure of GMA and since it is non-verbal, it is less  susceptible to cultural differences among individuals. The problem-solving tasks are  presented in order of increasing difficulty, meaning that the greater the progress the  individual makes within the test, the harder the tasks become. The test is not timed. Scores are represented on a sten scale.

  • Verbatim and Numeratum

Purpose and Rationale of the Verbatim and Numeratum

The primary purpose of the Verbatim and Numeratum is to assess a person’s ability to understand and accurately problem-solve using English verbal and numerical information.

The Verbatim and Numeratum assessments may be used to assist professionals in ascertaining candidate’s levels of verbal and numerical reasoning ability, which are key aspects to consider in screening, recruitment and selection settings. The Verbatim (verbal ability) and Numeratum (numerical ability) have been developed in response to the expressed need to measure specific abilities and skills that are not necessarily measured by general mental ability assessments. The most common request for special skills assessment is for verbal and numerical assessments appropriate for use in South Africa’s unique context.

The Verbatim and Numeratum are South African-developed products, with South African working adult norms.

GMAT
