Dr. Goitsione Emily Olifant is a Lecturer at the African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC) – Wits Business School. She holds a Doctorate in Biotechnology from the University of Johannesburg. Her research expertise spans across the Green Hydrogen economy, Critical Minerals, and the Just Energy Transition. Prior to joining the AELC, Dr. Olifant developed a strong foundation in scientific research through her doctoral and master’s work in nanotechnology with a strong focus on electro chemical sensors and their applications in the industry. She later transitioned into the energy leadership space by doing her post-doctoral fellowship with the AELC through the support of The Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA). During that time, she served as a co-teacher as part of her training. Then in July 2025, she was appointed as Lecturer. Dr Olifant has published peer reviewed articles in high impact Q1 (Top 25%) journals such as Progress in Energy and Energies, and she supervises master’s and doctorate research projects across a range of energy and sustainability topics. She is a registered member of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), a mentor at Nepoworx solar training, a member of the Advisory Board for DEVAC Hydrogen H-Indaba and Project Advisory Board member for GreenAccess Project. She is passionate about stakeholder engagements and actively engages in energy dialogues on energy transition and green hydrogen across both nationally and internationally.
