WBS Natural Gas Symposium

South Africa is facing a potential shortage of natural gas which will have major implications on our energy security and industrial competitiveness. This situation, known as a “gas cliff”, has called for an urgent discussion among all stakeholders on the future of natural gas in South Africa.

Against this background, the African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC) is pleased to invite you to a Natural Gas Symposium on 7 May 2025 at Wits Business School.

This Symposium will convene key stakeholders in the energy sector in Southern Africa, including the Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientso Ramokgopa and representatives from the National Treasury, government regulatory bodies, development finance institutions, industry associations and other key players in the oil and gas industry.

The aim of this important dialogue is to dissect the inherent challenges and opportunities across the entire natural gas value chain with a specific focus on infrastructure, financing, the regulatory framework and technology, to name but a few. An envisaged outcome is the development a new compact for a well-functioning South African gas sector.
