Public Event - After Dawn: Hope After State Capture
In 2015, former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas was offered a bribe of R600 million by the Gupta brothers in return for accepting the position on Finance Minister.
Jonas turned down the bribe and a period of deep introspection followed in which he questioned the very fundamentals of our democratic state. His new book, After Dawn: Hope after State Capture, analyses the crisis at the heart of our current system, which places politics at the centre of policy-making and implementation, at the expense of growth. The book goes further to provide possible solutions for our future.
Wits Business School is excited to be hosting Mcebisi Jonas, who will be in conversation with journalist Sikonathi Mantshantsha about his book. Click here for speaker bios
The discussion will ask:
- How did we reach this point in South Africa?
- What does the future hold for South Africa's democracy and the economy?
- What are the practical solutions for transitioning South Africa into a growing, job-creating country?
We hope you will join us for this important and timely discussion.
Booking is essential.
We hope to see you there!
