Industialisation in South Africa, China and Africa – From mere suppliership to c
The strong political and economic ties between South Africa and China have greatly intensified in recent years, and not without controversy. China is South Africa, and Africa’s largest export, trade and development partner. The rapid industrialisation of China has accelerated growth in many African countries, particularly those rich in natural resources.
With the growing presence of China on the African continent, important questions need to be asked about the long-term prospects for all nations involved. What is needed to ensure long-term wealth-creation and a mutually beneficial collaboration between China, South Africa and Africa? How do “mere supplierships’ and collaborative partner relationships compare, and which model is preferable for long term industrialisation and sustainable socio-economic development? What strategic role should South Africa and China be playing in the entire continent industrialisation? What opportunities are there for South Africa?
Wits Business School (WBS) is proud to host a public lecture by Professor Douglas Boateng, Professor Extraordinaire and leading global strategic thinker on procurement, industrialization, governance, logistics, and industrial engineering in the context of emerging world supply and value chain development and management.
Professor Boateng will address:
- ‘Mere Supplierships’ vs Collaborative partnerships: which of the two is better for long-term industrialisation and socio-economic development?
- The win-win industrial collaborative partnership model.
- Strategic win-win role of South Africa and China in Africa’s long term industrialisation.
- Real long term opportunities for South Africa and China, locally and in the rest of the continent.
Booking is essential. First 250 delegates will each get a free Transnet funded copy of the over 900 page world first and all-inclusive SCM compendium to be given after the lecture. Please note you will have to be in attendance to receive your copy.
