Expert Panel: Is Eskom in a Financial Death Spiral?
Eskom’s rising tariffs are resulting in declining sales of electricity. To make up for the shortfall, Eskom is asking for further tariff increases, which may further lower sales. The utility is said to be in a so-called ‘death spiral’. Is this true? If so, how can Eskom get out of it? Eskom has large debts to pay, many of which have state guarantees. How much of a risk is Eskom to the fiscus and to the entire economy?
Wits Business School, in partnership with Fieldstone Africa, invites you to a panel discussion to shed light on the magnitude of this very worrying conundrum, and possible solutions. Newly-appointed Director at the Wits Business School Energy Leadership Centre, Professor Rod Crompton, will facilitate what promises to be a lively and fascinating interaction.
Panellists:
- Mr Nhlanhla Nene – Interim Director: Wits Business School (former Minister of Finance)
