Courageous Conversation: What are you, as a black middle class South African, doing to take the country forward?
Wits Business School is excited to be hosting an interactive discussion to look at practical ways in which young, black middle class South Africans can influence the crucial next steps in our country’s future.
Since the State of the Nation Address in February, ‘radical economic transformation’ has become a political ‘hot potato’; President Zuma fulfilled predictions by reshuffling his cabinet and axing finance minister, Pravin Gordhan; two of the top three ratings agencies downgraded South Africa’s investment status to ‘junk’; anti-Zuma protesters took to the streets for a day; the #GuptaLeaks emerged, and South Africa was declared to be in a ‘technical recession’. These are just some of the events that have left many South Africans confused and uncertain about where this country is headed – including the many young graduates who would otherwise be excited about their futures.
As a young black South African, what do you see as your contribution to rebuilding South Africa? What do
you see as the major obstacle(s) to achieving your dreams and ambitions? And, more importantly, what do you think can and should be done to remove these obstacles? Is it time to tap into the massive, collective potential inherent in young South Africans to accelerate positive change?
Please join political commentator and author Moeletsi Mbeki and financial journalist and media personality Siki Mgabadeli as they share their perspectives, and give you the opportunity to contribute to the discussion. Click here for speaker bios
