Biography

Courses and Disciplines taught at WBS: 

Digital Financial Services (DFS); Digital Commerce; Digital Business in Africa, in Centre for Digital Business, as well as Financial Risk Management (FRM); Financial Technology (FinTech).

Other Teaching Experience: 

Euphemia Godspower-Akpomiemie has taught financial sustainably and reporting, as well as corporate governance at the Independent Institute of Education Monash South Africa (IIE MSA). Euphemia also taught finance for non-financial managers at the Centre for Enterprise and Sustainability.

Research Interests: 

Financial regulations/supervision, efficiency and performance matters; fintech and digitisation in the financial industry; banking fragility, twin-peaks, market discipline and Basel accords; money laundering and transparency in the banking industries; and other regulatory matters in the financial system.

Work

Industry and Professional Experience: 

Euphemia is a lecturer at Wits Business School of University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. She completed a PhD in financial management, with keen interest in financial regulations from Wits. She holds a Master of Management in Finance and Investment also from Wits, a post-graduate diploma in Business Management, and Higher National Diploma in Accounting and Finance from Nigeria.

Euphemia initially served as a sessional lecturer at Wits Business School, covering two departments (Master of Management in Finance and Investment and Master of Management in Digital Business). She also served as a contract lecturer at the Independent Institute of Education, Monash South Africa (IIEMSA), She has supervised several master’s theses to completion, engaged in thesis examinations and participated in research defence panels, both for PhD and master's works.

Her research output has gained her many recognitions, with many peer reviewed articles and book chapters publications, including publications in a top finance journal (Journal of Banking and Finance). She has gained many academic awards. She has also attended and presented research papers in many academic conferences, and engaged in some academic trainings to gain more knowledge in both academic writing and analytical skills. Despite Euphemia’s academic pursuit, she is a member of and a volunteer to several training and social development groups, where she participates in giving back to the society.

Community Engagement: 

The spots leader of “yellow house” of Our Lady of Fatima College with a trophy in 2006; Leader of a cultural group of Our Lady of Fatima College participated in Dramatic Art Festival (DAFEST) 2006; Secretary of a women group that fosters and educates rural women on good hygiene and savings habits; Secretary of “Greater Height”, a group of graduates who volunteer to tutor students during vacations.
