| Description | : | MUNICIPAL SKILLS RECORD SUCCESSFUL RATINGS IN KZN Wits Business School, in association with the Department of National Treasury, had teamed up to host the Certificate in Management Development for Municipal Finance (CPMD) earlier this year in Kwa-Zulu Natal and will be returning for the second phase due to the success and demand for the course. The programme which is funded by local government if participants are municipal officials has recorded successful attendance ratings and has gained huge support from the Kwa-Zulu Natal municipalities. Says Timothy Maluleke: Programme director for the CPMD course, “We are pleased with the participation and support from the municipalities in KZN. Thus far we have 22 municipalities that are supporting the programme and 28 confirmed delegates that are in the second phase of the programme.” “We would like to encourage municipal workers as well as managers from other relevant sectors to participate in this programme which aims to increase and enhance management skills at local government level.” The Certificate in Management Development for Municipal Finance (CPMD), will provide senior municipal officials ( Municipal managers, Chief Financial Officers and Senior Officials) with an in-depth understanding of the changing needs of today’s municipal service delivery and indicate how it impacts on the economy. more/… This programme was designed in consultation with The Department of National Treasury and Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority and critically addresses the area of leadership and municipal finance management competencies required to ensure increased capacity for service delivery within the local government sphere. The CPMD programme is specifically designed to help students with an understanding of the legislative and policy framework for financial management in local government, help improve ethical behaviour in municipalities, provide an understanding of the role and accountabilities of municipal officers in the disbursement of public money for efficient service delivery, focus on municipal budgeting process for effective planning and implementation as well as facilitate effective leadership within local government. Concluded Maluleke, “The ultimate goal of the CPMD programme is to ensure that the programme impacts positively on increasing service delivery at local government level. We thus need the adequate support from the local municipalities and their officials in achieving this goal.” |
