Venue: Executive Dining Room, Wits Business School, 2 St David's Place, Parktown

Wits Business School, in collaboration with its Master of Management in the field of Innovation Studies programme, invites you to a special morning with Fred Swaniker, founder of the African Leadership University (ALU).  With newly opened campuses in Mauritius and Rwanda – the first two of a planned 25 campuses across Africa – ALU provides a unique learning model and a completely fresh approach to tertiary education.

Fred Swaniker was recognised in 2010 and 2013 by former US president Barack Obama for his work in developing Africa’s future leaders. An alumnus of Stanford Business School and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, Fred is deeply passionate about Africa and believes that the missing ingredient on the continent is good leadership. In line with this, he founded the African Leadership Group, an ecosystem of organisations that aim to transform Africa by identifying, developing and connecting three million game-changing leaders for Africa by 2060.

This promises to be an inspiring lecture for students, academics, and anyone concerned about the future of tertiary education.

Fred will discuss:

  • ALU’s innovative blended learning model,
  • How technology – and particularly ICT – underpins ALU’s learning model, and
  • Lessons learnt and implications for incumbent universities, new entrants, public policy, the private sector, and civil society.
